Komondor At A Glance
Komondor Overview
The Komondor is an ancient Hungarian herding breed known for its distinctive long, corded coat. Originating over 1000 years ago, this large dog was originally bred to guard flocks from wolves and other predators in the mountains of Hungary.
Standing at heights between 25-30 inches tall and weighing around 90-110 pounds, Komondors have a powerful build with broad shoulders, a muscular neck, and a slightly arched back. Their signature feature is their long, wool-like coat that comes in an all-white color. The coat requires regular grooming to keep it healthy and prevent matting.
Known for its intelligence, loyalty, and protective nature, the Komondor makes a great watchdog but is generally not aggressive unless provoked or threatened. They require early socialization and consistent training to develop good manners and behavior in public settings.
Despite their large size, Komondors have relatively low energy levels and are content with a moderate amount of exercise, such as a daily walk or two. Their thick coats provide excellent protection against both hot and cold weather conditions.
